Pizza meets panzerotti in this recipe! Wrap up pizza sauce, pepperoni slices and mozzarella in tender and delicious Pillsbury™ Crescents™ dough, and you’ve got a new favourite for your family. This recipe is so easy but looks impressive; everyone will think you spent hours in the kitchen creating it. Serve it with a bowl of warmed pizza sauce in the centre and dig in!
Ingredients
- 2 cups (500 mL) shredded mozzarella cheese (8 oz)
- 1 1/4 cups (300 mL) pizza sauce
- 2 cans (235 g) refrigerated Pillsbury™ Original Crescents (8 count)
- 4 oz (125 g) pepperoni slices (about 42 slices)
Topping
- 1 tablespoon (15 mL) butter, melted
- 1 tablespoon (15 mL) grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 teaspoon (1 mL) Italian seasoning
Method
- Heat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line large cookie sheet with cooking parchment paper. In medium bowl, mix mozzarella cheese and 1/2 cup (125 mL) of the pizza sauce.
- Unroll both cans of dough; separate into 16 triangles. On cookie sheet, arrange triangles in ring so short sides of triangles form a 5-inch (12.5 cm) circle in centre. Dough will overlap. Dough ring should look like the sun.
- Arrange half of the cheese mixture and all pepperoni slices on half of each triangle closest to centre of ring. Top with remaining cheese mixture. Bring each dough triangle up over filling, tucking dough under bottom layer of dough to secure it. Repeat around ring until entire filling is enclosed (some filling might show a little).
- In small bowl, mix melted butter, Parmesan cheese and Italian seasoning. Brush top of dough with topping mixture.
- Bake 20 to 25 minutes or until dough is golden brown and thoroughly baked. Cool 10 minutes. To serve, carefully place ring onto serving plate. Just before serving, in small microwavable bowl, microwave remaining 3/4 cup (175 mL) pizza sauce covered on Medium-High (70%) 1 to 2 minutes or until hot. Serve as a dipping sauce.
Expert Tips
- If you have a bowl that is close to 5 inches across the top, place it upside down on the cookie sheet. This will give you a guide when placing the triangles in a circle. You could also cut a 5-inch circle out of parchment paper to use as a guide.
- Working with cold dough is much easier. Keep dough refrigerated, and get all your ingredients ready to go before you take dough out of fridge.
- Like it spicy? Try adding a few drops of hot sauce to your pizza sauce to kick up the level of heat.
